Today (September 8) was our last free day here in Rome. To commemorate
the moment, Annie and I started off the day with an early morning run to see
all the sites one last time. This has to be one of my favorite things I’ve done
here in Italy so far! The streets were sparse with only a few locals here and
there and the sites didn’t have a soul in sight! We picked up some fresh
strawberries at the Campo di Fiori and had a breakfast of toast with
strawberries and nutella. It was the perfect ending to our visit here in Rome.
Spanish Steps |
Fontana di Trevi |
Pantheon |
A bride who had the same idea that we did...get there early and no tourists will be in your pictures! |
Piazza Navona |
Campo di Fiori |
Where it got its name: Flower stands |
Fresh Produce! |
The Colosseum |
The Victor Emmanuel II Monument (a.k.a. the Wedding Cake) |
For Lunch we hit up the Pizzarium again, the pizza shop from
our first day. It was still one of the best even after two weeks of trying
different places and well worth the repeated visit! I spent the rest of the
afternoon back in the Borghese gardens for a relaxing day of people watching
and catching up in my journal. Because it was Saturday the place was filled
with little families out spending time together. I am in love with Italian
children. They are so beautiful! And hearing the language in their high little
voices just makes my heart melt.
For dinner we had another pasta specialty! Ravioli stuffed
with ricotta and spinach. It was even more delicious than it looks! That night
I found a few of us wandering back to St. Peter’s square and we spent the night
chatting and enjoying the view for the last time. I am going to miss the grand
views that Rome has to offer!
